The Howe Center for Writing Excellence seeks an experienced, enthusiastic and team-oriented design student to serve a paid nine month position as HCWE Graphic Design Intern, working 10-20 hours/week with HCWE staff.

Duties will include developing a range of print and digital materials and marketing campaigns for the Howe Writing Across the Curriculum and the Howe Writing Center’s wide array of events and programs. The intern will work closely with the HCWE communication coordinator, as well as directors and manager of the HCWE and the HWC, to design flyers, posters, brochures, informational booklets, reports, presentations, website banners and and social media graphics. The intern will gain experience working with brand guidelines: the center has a comprehensive brand book, and all our designs must also align with the Miami brand. Audience awareness and ability tot adapt to different media will be key to design choices: different marketing campaigns will be directed towards Miami undergraduate students, Miami graduate students, Miami faculty, or wider national audiences, and be shared digitally and in print.

The work environment in the HCWE is a very student-friendly environment, located in King Library, where the intern will be part of a community.

The intern will have the opportunity to compile a portfolio of work. If the student desires this to count for course credit, HCWE staff can provided scaffolded opportunities for reflection and assessment of work. The Communications Coordinator will also review the student’s performance once each semester, and write a letter assessing work that can be used in the student’s portfolio or for job applications.

Per Miami’s student compensation guidelines:

UG students start at $11.60/hr

Grad students start at $13.50/hr
